Science is a lot like medicine (it's all a "practice"). As much as we think we have it all figured out, something is going to come along at some point to prove that while we may have had some of it right we certainly didn't have it all.

We tend to believe what fits into our belief system because, well, we believe it. We're obviously going to believe what supports what we already believe.

Personally, there are some things I'm sure of by proof and some things I'm sure of by faith but I don't discount science unless I know it's hogwash.

For instance: evolution (nonsense!) there is no way that humans just evolved from primordial goop. Oh, and the Big Bang Theory is as likely as Webster's Dictionary being created by a print shop exploding.

Wait a minute there is something you may have forgotten:
Science is definate law for example if you drop a hammer it will fall to the floor. That is science it's a proven fact that 100% of the time will be proven as a fact by trial and error.
Everything else is belief based on what people assume most of the time to be true.

Cheerished beliefs and or ideologies dies slowest. Everyone wants to feel that they are a part of something bigger, and religion often satisfies that need for many. Problem is that when new or strange concepts intersect their belief system they automatically pull back from those concepts untill they can fully comprehend it, sort of a defense mechanism. Atheist or theist they may be, if something is foreign to their belief system they will ALL regress untill they can understand it completely.

Actually I believe in science whenever there is significant evidence to support scientific findings. I am atheist so I have no set belief system.
