Kim Jung Il was put into office when his father died in 1994 he assumed his position as supreme ruler. They do not have an open society in North Korea, they are one of the last bastions of Communism and have always been secretive with their nation and their people. North Korea continues to hold the world hostage by making irrational demands and building up a military against some unforseen and unprovoked attack from the "West" (USA). Because they have chosen to isolate themselves from the world community, their people are starving, have a limited economy and live under the shadow of an insane dictator who uses foreign aid money to pamper his favored Generals with luxury gifts, and build nuclear technology.

Kim has selected his preference for relations with the world....

He chose isolation, intimidation and blackmail as his policy for dealing with the world......

Best solution?

Isolate and monitor.......he will go broke and his regime will fall apart.

But give ....

No concessions......give him an inch and he will try for the mile....

He can rant and rave and blame and accuse all he wants.....in the long run he's just a spoiled brat with a crybaby problem...let him hang himself.....

Counterfeiting, money laundering, piracy, drugs, slavery, protection, kidnapping, ransoms.......whats the REAL national product of N.K ?

Best solution....stand back and say 'F him'

Let the UN handle it and lets see what happens. All the Democrats belly ache that Bush should have let the U.N. handle Saddam. Besides the little pot bellied dog eater isn't much of a threat yet, If the success (or lack of) of his missile testing says anything. Keep an eye on him for sure but he would hate it if we just ignored him. From reading some of the stuff he's said he's done like having 11 holes in one the first time he played golf I'd say he likes to be the center of attention. So again let his fate be decided by a united government solution not just by the United States. It would just be one more thing Bush did wrong. Of course if Bush found a cure for cancer they'd find something wrong with that too.

The best solution is to allow China to defuse it. China has more to risk than the US. The missiles of North Korea could reach any of the major cities in China and if nuclear war broke out and we struck back, even if China didn't enter the war, the fall-out would affect the people here. The US response has always been through might and not negotiation which could provoke a world war and no one would win. Japan is hot to attack but if they do so, they pull the US in with them. Then China with its own defense in mind is pulled in to either join us or support North Korea. President Hu JinTao has shown remarkable leadership and is better capable of dealing with the spoiled child called North Korea. Yes, they want and need things in NK, and President Clinton did a lot of good keeping things somewhat stable. But Bush has demonstrated that he is willing to invade any country at his whim. North Korea fears that and has been warning its citizens to prepare for such an invasion by building tunnel complexes for barracks, hospitals, food supplies and such. The economy of North Korea is not strong and the people are relatively poor and Kim thinks that he can blackmail others to soften things in his country. An economic sanction would be the worst possible step to quell him, it would force him to react. China has provided aid and has a working relationship (not perfect but working) with the North Koreans. Let China manage it and we can all relax.

I think u'r suggesting here is an, ehmm what did u say, "unforseen and unprovoked attack" on N. Korea.

Sorry, didnt mean to offend u, but how can u be so sure that "their people are starving, have a limited economy and live under the shadow of an insane dictator... blah, blah, blah" ?

k, think it over, what do we really know about N. Korea, few of us have ever been there, "Anderson Copper special report" aint enough to convince me that how "evil" Kim is [sorry Anderson, loved ur program]. Do their ppl really need us to liberate them? [look at what happened in Iraq] We're already in this bloody war in Iraq, waging another total unnecessary conflict AGAIN? ehmm, probably not.

First off, I don't mean to correct you but if you look at the world there are fewer democracy's than dictatorships. The only reason North Korea is communist is because China, a much larger, more powerful and more dangerous communist nation put it in place as a satelite nation. This is important to know because communism has taken a new form in the world and the way it spreads to other territories. It is similar to the Islamic states using terrorists to spread to greater territories and spread islam and their nation.
So to answer your question the only thing we should about N Korea is what we are doing. Basically if they even attempt to launch a missile we will shoot it down.

North Korea IS NOT holding the world hostage...anyway, All we need to do is to continue to call this idiot's bluff and if need be take action....period! Unlike IRAQ....it would be best to deal with N. Korea on a multi-nation level lest we get caught up in something (like Iraq) with little or no "world community" support.
The only way america should without a doubt "attack" or make a move on N. Korea is if N. Korea makes the first move.....or tries to.

North Korea can ill afford to start an armed conflict with anyone. If it did, China could no longer legitimently support it. All that North Korea does, it does to gain bargaining position to make better economic deals, since it can not sustain itself. The danger with them is not really initiating a conflict, but proliferating weapons. That government is only surviving because of the iron grip it has over the people. It can not continue to survive if it remains isolated.

Don't worry about Korea people, they read the Koran like it's supposed to read and are not real terroists. Now I heard there's a new threat comming from Mars, yup that's where Osama is likely to be hiding, and due to a new CIA report terroist martians might be there and they have a ton of oil (Well the oil findings are confirmed by Nasa and we're not really sure if there are martians there). But I've got a feeling that osama is there and might take all the oil for himself to help fund his terrorist organizations. We're dealing with some serious prof... problems 2 deal with on mars, that's where the answer to all our prof... urr problems are. Forget this near sighted Earth politics, the real threat is mars, let's attack marrs!!>what we might be hearing Bush the third hahaah

The North Korean nuclear really made me fear of war in the Asian Penn insular.Kim Jung II lives his life very luxury while let his people st raved to death. The American has to use China and Russian to deal with Kim Jung, because,he will not listen to the American.Right now Japan is nervous and she allows the American War ship to station near her islands at this point.I hate to see U.S. wastes her time with Korean while Japan will build her secret nuclear war head to protect her country.

I think we should have focused on N. Korea before Iraq. Iraq wasn't a threat to us. Oh well, I guess that's a whole other issue.

Either way, we ought to gather our strongest allies and together launch a pre-eminent attack upon North Korea's nuclear facilities.
