Do you think it's fair that in the new spending bill, Congress has proposed a congressional pay raise, but yet they rejected an increase in minimum wage?? Why or why not?

I disagree that the minimum wage is a horrible thing. I believe that some people will be underpaid, and a lack of a minimum wage gives corporations the go-ahead to underpay people if it is not in place. We already have greedy companies such as Wal-mart using the government benefits as a darn band-aid for their poor benefits plan. Other companies do it, too, so I'm not going to slam Wack-mart alone. These companies know exactly what they're doing. If the minimum wage is so bad, then tell me why does Canada do things a LOT differently, and have things a LOT better? Hum? Everyone there manges to have health care. Their economy is a HELL of a lot better, and for example, in Ontario, the minimum wage is $7.75. Give people a fighting chance is all I'm saying...

Its a political travesty of vast proportions. I hope all of you that are old enough to vote do so this coming election. The GOP stands for "Greedy Old Party" ... out of touch voting and out of touch values have no place in this modern world.

If it were up to the voters whether or not Congress gets anymore raises I bet they wouldn't.

To be fair, Congress did not propose the raise, but failed to deny themselves the raise. Quite a few years ago Congress passed a law giving themselves automatic cost of living raises, which they must vote down to prevent. Also, the pay raise will not go into effect until after the election, so many of them won't be there anymore.

The minimum wage does nothing but eliminate jobs, create unemployment, and encourage illegal immigration. But I digress. As to your initial question, they already get paid in 6 digits to do very, very little. And the reason they do so little is because they were elected to solve problems and, in their reasoning, if they solved the problems they wouldn't get reelected. So, no, a congressional payraise beyond the rate of increase in cost of living in the District of Columbia is grossly unfair, particularly to each and every taxpayer, for it is THEY who are doing all the paying.

Also, I DEMAND to see every congressman who complains about the deficit and yet passes one pork project after another for their state or district take a paycut. Further more, I demand they VOLUNTEER for it!

It is not fair, but when you are controlled by capitalists, it is them first, you later.
