Consult an obstetrician they may have clients who wouldn't mind talking to you. Also ask about where you could find mommy or birthing classes...
I have heard several stories, good, bad, wonderful and scarry- it depends on you. If you are PLANNING to have a child- go to your local nature store and ask them for suggestions on books on preparing your body for pregnancy-- I have heard from more than one person that sometimes eating right and excercising can help you in the long run during labor and through pregnancy.

Yes it's painful, but it's worth it. Contractions can range from mild cramp like discomfort to OH MY GOD GET THIS KID OUTTA ME pressure and pain. When you push, if you have an epidural, you should feel nothing but pressure, as though you're trying to have a bowel movement. If you don't have an epidural, you will feel a slight burning sensation as the baby makes his/her way down the birth canal. It kind of feels like rug burn. Make sure you find an ob/gyn who lets his patients be involved in the birthing process. It will take your mind off the pain. Most hospitals now have mirrors above the bed so you can see baby's head, if you choose. Also, there are jacuzzis to sit in and relax until it's time to push. You can also try walking around, which is a natural way to speed up the dilation of the cervix. I found that the contractions, while painful, were more annoying than anything, because the further you dilate, the closer together they become. So, you could've just had one, and WHAM, here comes another! Don't mean to scare you, just trying to prepare you for what to expect. Actually, I've found that the contractions don't really get too intense until you've dilated to about 5 cm. Hope this helps some. Anyway, good luck to you.

I was 26 when I delivered my baby. During my preganancy a friend of mine gave a book titled What to Expect While Your Expecting. It was a great book. It really explains to you in detail all the questions you might have. I highly recommend it.
As far as your question goes..you will be hearing everybody's "horror" stories. Just know that that's there experience and may not be the same for you. I didn't take any lamaze or birthing classes and I was just fine. I think that when the moment comes all you need is your significant other by your side...everything else will come naturally to you. The labor is painful just try to relax and breath during the contraction and if you just can't take it than ask for the Epidural. The choice is yours.
And finally the delivery...well, I too had a lot of questions about this one! What does it feel like? How will I know when to push?! Trust me you'll know! Its a feeling we ARE all familiar with. It feels like a bowel movement.
If you decide to get pregnant..enjoy it. Its a beautiful experience. The labor and delivery is hard work but when you hear your baby's first cry into this world and hold him/her in your arms for the first time the 12 plus hours of labor will quickly fade away.

Very, very, very, painful but the pain should be the last thing on your mind. The responsibility of raising them is what gets you. you may be in pain for hours, but you have to take care of them for many years
