My 7-year old daughter has been swimming everyday, twice per day starting this past Monday. She loves to swim!!! I did not let her swim today and when I picked her up from the Y, her fingertips looked really dry, whilted like. No pain. Is there a connection between swimming and her dry fingertips? What is the cause? Should I take her to the doctor? I asked her if she played in the H2O today and she said no. What gives?

Try a really good moisturiser and see how she goes. The same thing happens to me when I go swimming. I don't think it is a major problem but mention it to your doctor at your next appointment.

As dry skin [or other conditions] can also be caused by certain lack in nutrition I would check what she is eating; due to amount of processing of modern foods, it's possible it could be lack of vitamins. You could look up skin problems in relation to vitamin deficiencies......and I would check for any other symptoms. But if she is otherwise OK, I'd do the above first. Then, if there are no indications in relation to her nutrition [vitamin deficiency] I would probably get a doc's opinion [in any case, that wouldn't hurt: then you've got some input from professional!]
All the best with this

I could be from spending too much time in the water. Try putting lotion on them for a few days and if the problem persists take her to a doctor. But don't make her quit swimming, especially if that is something she loves to do!

Any type of water activities cause our finger and toes to wrinkle up. If you are worried talk with your doctor, but it sounds like she is just in need of some heavy moisturizing. I'd recommend getting her a good "hand" moisturizer and having her put it on 2-3 times daily.

maybe it was all the swimming. all the water in her finger tips is causing her fingers to dry out when her fingers dry.

Take her. It could be an allergic reaction.
