When the monarch dies or abdicates, the crown passes to the next in line.
If the outgoing monarch has one, the first in line is the eldest son (so Prince Charles is currently first in line), or the eldest son of the eldest son (Prince William is second in line).
When the previous King died in 1952, he had no sons. First in line was his eldest daughter, Princess Elizabeth, so she became Queen Elizabeth II.

Because sons have priority over daughters, there have been more Kings as monarch than Queens.
However, the wife of a King is also called a Queen, whereas the husband of a Queen is not called a King, but a Prince-Consort.
Hence Elizabeth II is Queen, and Phillip is Prince-Consort.

That is one of the most ignorant diatribes I have ever read.
Here are the facts, if you are interested.
Edward VII became king when his father, George V died.
Edward gave up the throne to marry Wallis Simpson.
Upon his abdication, the throne passed to his younger brother, George VI.
When George died, he had only two daughters. He didn't have a younger brother, so by default the crown went to the elder of the two girls, and she became Queen Elizabeth II.
That's why England doesn't have a King, but does have a ruling monarch.
The Romanic Germans had nothing to do with it. I have no idea what you are talking about when you complain that they didn't fight well.
Are you on some sort of medication?
If so, see your doctor. It needs adjusting.

It has to do with the line of succession. If Queen Elizabeth's husband, Prince Philip had been the son of Queen Elizabeth's father (forget the fact that this would make them siblings), then Philip would be King and Elizabeth, his wife, the Queen. However, since Elizabeth, was next in line to the throne, she became the ruler and the title of Prince was bestowed upon Philip. Unfortunately, the authority doesn't exist to bestow the title of King. So while Philip could be married to a Queen (laugh now sisters) she could never be married to the King of England, as she is the one ruler who inherited the title.

England doesn't have a King, luv, because the Queen ate him. Also, Prince Charles will never be king. He's too old. When and IF the Queen ever dies, it will be Prince William who takes the throne. And, if for some reason, Prince William can't take it, then it will be Prince Harry....and then all hell will break WIDE open! LOL

Have you read the history of Monarchy systems? It shows you how kingship and Queendom is picked. England doesn't have a king because it has a queen who has just the same power as a king. There was no male in the bloodline to take after Queen elizabeth's father so she was crowned queen since she was the next one in place foir the throne.

Right now England has a queen because she was a biological heir to the current throne. Rest assured, the next two in line will be Kings. Personally I can't wait for William's turn. Anyway she's not even a queen consort since her husband wasn't allowed to become King. I think it has to do with him being Greek Orthodox.

The last king died and the current Queen was the next person in the blood line to take the throne. The queen was his sister.

England has had plenty of kings. It would currently have a king if Queen Elizabeth II's father would have had a son. Since he did not have a son, his eldest daughter, became queen. Likewise after her death England will once more have a king. Charles, as first born unless he pre-deceases his mother. The linage then goes to Charles son Prince William.

Really? Prince Charles will be the King once his mother, Queen Elizabeth dies. They have to wait b/c otherwise he'd be the king, and his mom would be the queen...that type of thing only happens at county fairs in Illinois.

ENGLAND doesnt have a KING because it has a QUEEN...

*oooh it drips sarcasm* ^

and we actually also have a monarchy system where the throne is allowed to pass to a woman, unlike say Japan I believe.

And the Queen was actually not a sister, but a daughter. She inherited from George VI, who was her father! Simple!
