SHAME ON YOU for letting those people eat them! You were their guest?GEEZE...I would have told them up front what you saw and then I would have taken the "licker" to the side and brought his awareness up on what he did.It is kinda funny(in a sick way) though that you just watched them eat their sandwiches

I can understand why you did not want to make a scene in front of your hosts; however, there is no way I would have eaten that sandwich. I either would have taken the sandwich and asked for it to be wrapped and thrown the whole thing away or excused myself to the restroom and talked to the manager to ask for something else prepared by someone else. After, I would write a letter to the Corporate Office AND called the Health Department. The reason there are health codes in place is to avoid epidemic illinesses.

Why do anything? Do you have any idea how often you've eaten something that hasn't been prepared in the most sanitary of conditions? Try every time you eat out. It only grossed you out this time because you saw it. Was this the first time you've ever eaten out in your life? Are you still alive today? Then the germs from the cook licking his fingers probably wouldn't have done any more harm than all the other licked items you've eaten at a restaurant in your life.

I would have sent back the sandwich, told the manager and the people I was with and then left. If your party still wanted to eat there, that would be fine. I would have been too disgusted to eat anything that cook prepared.

The people who invited you out have no relationship with the restaurant they invited you to. If they did, then they would have demanded that you say something.
It's your food and your health. If you see something like that, then you need to hold that worker accountable. Say something to the manager. If he refuses to get you something else, then refuse to eat. Apologize to your hosts profusely, but hold your ground. Your hosts will respect you because you did the right thing.

Honesty! That is what you should have done. It is not rude to tell someone. Look what you and the others put up with. Did you ever think that the cook may have a disease??? You should have politely asked to speak to a manager and reported the issue.

i would politely excuse myself and confront the cook. i would ask to have another sandwich that was prepared by someone else. there are all kinds of germs in a person's mouth. they transmitted their germs onto your food. it does not matter that you scraped the top off. germs grow and spread in a matter of seconds. if he is licking his fingers while he is fixing food, i wonder if he is washing his hands after he uses the bathroom.

I would have called the manager over and told him what happened and asked him to personally supervise new sandwiches being made for all your orders. The friends with you would have been grateful to know that you caught that and had it corrected. I know I would.

Just because someone is nice does not mean you have to put up with that.
Look at it like this would you want your geust to eat your food after you licked your hands.
There is a nice way to say no.
