Does the current adminsitration (small 'a') pose any threat to the fourth estate? To a free press? I find it disingenuous to the point of imbecility that Bush & Co are "outraged" that the press is "out to get them". What did they think was going to happen?

Yes, and to add to what "professional" said,. they not only are hostile to Geo. W. Bush, but now in the name of "freedom" the new york times and others are giving away our investigative secrets in the war on terror. American lives will be lost over this. The new York times and others who published it need to have their white house credentials revoked, they should be fined...etc. NYT has given Al-Queda a leg up in the war. This isn't funny. This is not a Game!! It's a War, and we have to win.

yes
The "fourth estate" has long been excruciatingly hostile to anyone who's even the least bit to the right of the middle of the political spectrum.
