Heat soaked starter motor
Over heated battery
Vapourising fuel rail
Faulty electronics in the ECU or immobiliser
Fuel perculation (only with carburretor)
Excessive Plug gap or lead resistance
Wide rotor gap
Fuel mixture too lean or rich
Try starting with your foot flat to the floor. If this helps you have a fuel mixture problem.
Faulty EST (electronic spark timing)

Is it a manual transmission?....My 91 Acura does the same thing. It's because the car vapor locks. Vapor lock occurs because the gasoline boils-or vaporizes-inside the fuel line, starving the carburetor and ultimately the engine. Mostly on manual transmissions though.
