It's not so much what you name them, as what you don't name them.
1st: They are unique and different people, and deserve to be treated as such. No rhyming names, and no male and female versions of the same name;
2nd: They should not be named after a "famous" couple, real or fictional;
3rd: As twins, they're going to have a slightly different outlook on life, and a strong desire to be individuals. Try to avoid selecting names that are popular or common right now, so that they won't be surrounded by peers with the same name later on.
Finally (and this is not just about twins): make sure you consider the full and nickname versions of the names you select, and how they sound when spoken out loud. Also, consider potential inappropriate variations.
True story: a friend (B and K Falls) were considering names for their soon-to-be-born child. One of the boy names the wife brought up was "Bartholomew". Her husband said "absolutely not." She asked why, because she thought it was a cute name, and he replied "The short form of Bartholomew is Bart. Bart Falls. Fart Balls. Absolutely not."

NO RHYMING NAMES! Do not give them rhyming names, names that sound similar, or even names that mean the same thing. No Dan and Ann, no Joe and Jane, no Sandy and Rocky. Names like that are cute when you're two years old, but when you are older and have to explain these names while people are snickering, it's not so adorable. It's enough that they're twins - people will always compare them and look for more similarities. You of all people should recognize that they are unique individuals, and give them each a unique name that means something to you. Having twins is not a rhyming contest.
PS- I am fond of the names Cora and Rowan.

As a mother of twins, boy/girl twins - now 16, I would STRONGLY suggest that you stay away from cute "twin" names. Most likely they will hate it.
They are already a novelty, they don't need a name that makes them more of a novelty or subject to joking from school peers.
I almost went the cute "twin" name route and I am SOOOOO glad I did not. Now it is a joke, with my children when I told them the first names that I had chosen for them as twins. They are SOOOO happy I did not go that route.
My suggestion to you would be to pick your favorite BOY name, and your favorite GIRL name.
Skip the concept of sing songie twin naming, it is cute when they are little, but they will not stay little for long.
CONGRATULATIONS! You are going to love the experience - and you will never buy ONE of anything ever again!

Personally, I love old names and Irish names. For a girl, I love the names Elizabeth, Olivia, Imogen, Grace, and Isabel. For a boy, I really like Colin, Liam, and William. One piece of advice though, even though it will be tempting to dress them alike, you know that as they get older they'll resist it and think it's ridiculous that you try to make them do that. Consider that when picking names....if you give them similar or matching names (Dick and Jane, or Steven and Stephanie for instance), they might feel the same as they get older, only they can't do anything about the name you gave them. I have two sister, and my mom named us all similarly....Cassie, Chrissy, and Casey. Even though they're cute names by theirselves, look at how that can be treacherous for us. Just consider that, and go with your heart!

Dakota and Dodge?
No really
Take your two grandmothers and your two grandfathers and put their names together like this:
Thelma Marie and Junie May becomes Junemarie
Rodney Allen and Christopher Linel become Linallen
that way you have a name no one else has. for a while, AND the grandparents are honored. OR USE the mom and dad's middle names and parents names mix and match

What nationality are you? That would help with suggesting Irish names or Italian name? Do you want the names to be similar like Eric & Erica? Do you want the names to be biblical? Traditional? Unusual?
