Ten years ago my best mate got married.Since then he has been with no other woman.I on the other hand have paid about £25,000 out on prostitutes (I have had about 500 (one a week)).He is now getting divorced and will have to give his wife half the value of the house (about £145,000).I still have my house.Just who is the mug in this tale ?

It depends on what you want out a marriage. If your buddy only wanted sex, he could have hired prostitutes as you have, or he could have just stayed a single man and gotten where he could for free (or the price of dinner).
He obviously wanted more. Unless he was very unlucky, in addition to regular sex, he probably got his house cleaned, his laundry done and if they had kids (which may have been something he wanted no hooker is going to give him), he got childcare. Those services over 10 years cost a lot more than the 145, 000 pounds he's paid out.
And in addition to the services he got for his money, he probably had a great companion and a friend he could come home to every night (at least for a few years..before the marriage fell apart).
If she worked (you didn't say), then keep in mind that some of that money is a return of HER share of income brought into the household.
So...if you've been happy paying for sex and haven't missed the depth of a real relationship..then maybe you both did well.
But as a person who has been through a divorce and several painful (and at times expensive) breakups, I can tell you the good times was more than worth the risk of encountering the bad times.

You fool!. If you only consider money, then of course a wife is more expensive than a prostitute, but even then, not if she earns as much or more than you.
But marriage is far, far, more than sex and making love with the woman you love and who loves you cannot be compared with sex with a prostitute.
Also a prostitute does not cook your meals, or keeps your house, or gives you children or companionship, and your friends never think what a lucky bastard you are, having a wife like that. A loving, lovely, girl for a wife is is the greatest treasure and happiness in life, bar none. Bar none.

I am sure your best mate has had a more meaningful relationship with his wife than you will ever have with your 500+ women. He got the value of being respected, and respecting himself. You have no self respect to speak about unfortunately. And its not about money, its about love and companionship, commitment, responsibility - which do not exist in your lifestyle. I actually feel really sorry for you. I hope you are happy.

You are; the sad part is you don't see it. He had 10 years of a marriage that went bad but was not always. She paid for the house in part, your 500 whores paid for nothing and you got what between 15 and 45 minutes a week in strictly sex for money scam. Your house is as empty and emotionally, and morally bankrupt as you.

Michael K - I like what you said there..."the price of everything and the value of nothing". I think you have just hit the nail on the head in respect to this question.

Maybe it's just as well you're not married. You are so money-concious you would make your wife's life a misery. You know the price of every-thing,the value of nothing.Sad creature.

Well - on one side you got your m8 - £145k down and only 1 woman - but did he have 10 years of love?
Then we've got you - £25k for 500 women - but any love?
Sex is great - but without love - pointless.... you can get more money - but as they say - you can't buy love.. (Although I wouldnt mind 500 women ;) grin
