What do you think about setting up a nursery while you are trying to conceive?

Do you think its okay to set up a nursery with a crib or baby things while trying to conceive?

Do you think its okay to paint a baby's room while trying to concieve?

Do you think the room should be left empty until the expectant mother is far along?

I think that it would be a huge mistake to set up a nursery early. What if it takes years to conceive or it never happens? How would it make you feel to walk past that empty room?

Besides..spending 9 months picking out exactly what you want is a blast and there's always something new out so why rush it? Next month, next season, you'll see something you like better.

So wait it out.

Besides...if you're even remotely superstitious, it could jinx you.

It would be strange to decorate and buy nursery furniture before you were even pregnant. You wouldn't start planning an actual wedding without a groom would you? You are putting the cart before the horse.

For practical reasons, you may be trying to conceive much longer than you anticipate. What is available today, will be updated tomorrow. Safety guidelines change everyday. Carseats have a kind of "expiration" date, once they are so old they are supposed to be thrown away. In only a 3 year span between my own children there was a tons of updates, not all were necessity, but there were dramatic changes in that short time.

Painting the room you intend to use might not be terribly unusual if it isn't totally babyish, but I would never decorate it beforehand.

Expecting a baby is such a wonderful time and experience, why would you want to ruin that short time by doing it all way beforehand?

DECORATE AND GO CRAZY with the nursery! i think it helps to pass the time while trying to conceive! there is nothing more beautiful than a nursery. even when i'm old and gray... even when my grand-children are old and gone I WILL ALWAYS have a nursery. new beginings, peaceful moments... i think of all of those things when i'm in the nursery. if the thoughts of having the nursery set up makes you happy- DO IT. an empty room would make me FAR more sad that a delightful, nursery! don't believe all of the "bad luck" people. you'll get your baby... sometimes it takes a little longer than other times, but having a nursery set up in NO WAY influences anything.

I wouldn't do it, you could jinx yourself. Depending on medical probs or even just if you have been on b/c forever and just went off it could take a while and it could just send you into depression. I read that depression can stop a women from ovulating which would not help you get pregnant.

I knew a couple the second they found out they were prego they started making a babys room and getting strollers, toys, etc and she miscarried the baby at 8 weeks along. It was really hard for her looking at the stuff she bought.

I would say wait on getting that stuff until you are a few months along. Plus everyone will be buying you stuff that's what baby showers are for!! Once your get to that second trimester go for it!

As far as painting as long as your not going way baby-ish and could use the room for something else go ahead and paint. But use the room for something else until baby comes.
It's been true both time for me when I stopped trying is when I got pregnant.

It's a bad idea. When we went through an adoption process several years ago, it was a requirement that the nursery be "set up" in anticipation of a placement. However, with disappointment after disappointment - it gets so hard to get near that room. When things in the process fell apart for us, I fell apart myself and that room bore the brunt of my hurt and disappointment. I ruined a lot of perfectly good baby things.

Better to wait until baby is on the way - past the 15 week miscarriage mark.

I think it would be a bad idea if you weren't able to concieve. Then you'd have a beautifully decorated nursery and no baby to put in it. A horrible reminder every time you walked past and looked in.

I wouldn't start decorating a nursery untiil you have conceived. It would be best to wait until you know what you are having before trying to work on the nursery.

I don't think you should. What if you have trouble conceiving? It would just be a painful reminder of something you want so bad.

I'd leave it till I was actually pregnant. Too much pressure to get pregnant if you're making all these other preparations. And stress or pressure can actually delay conception.

Kind of jumping the gun, as well as spending a lot of money for something that may not happen until well into the future (or not at all).
