i get this messege when windows fails to update.

Check this page of Microsoft which offers a Hotfix for this problem, but read the entire page first. This pertains only to WinXP. Be certain that your system has Service Pack 2 and that this error is something that reoccurs upon every update failure.
If you are on Windows 2000 search google for the error message for win2000 or search for CO_E_SERVER_STOPPING for win2000.
