why do people look down on people who play a musical instrument.

i don't have the nerd look to me at all. but why do people just assume you are a nerd just becuase your in band.

i dont feel like a nerd or think of myself as a nerd i like star wars but im not crazy about it.

Only because Pop Culture today tells us its not cool to be in band. You see it in movies like She's All That, when the kids are walking down the hall and all of these really skinny kids in glasses are walking around with their instruments and playing them in the hallway. There is nothing nerdy about band. The only reason nerdy kids typically are in band is because society tells them that's what they're suppose to do and "cool" kids stay out because of what society tells them about band.
I was in band all through middle and high school. I'm now in college and I STILL do band. I get into all of the football and basketball games for free plus, I can play pretty well on the trumpet. Its been a fun experience. I wasn't really a nerd in high school. I had and still have many friends in the in crowd. There is nothing nerdy about band. Its hard work, dedication and you learn discipline too. Some of my best memories came from band.

To being in band can be good and bad i mean you could get a scholarship and you get to bond with your other peers (if there not nerds) and then in my point of view band can be bad at least at school cause people will see you caring around some instrument in a case and think that ur a nobody but the good thing about it is that if you do quit band you can still play your instrument at home and make up your own music and show your friends how you can play up to date music with style with whatever instrument u play so there can be pros and cons

Well, I dont know really why. I just know when your in high school girls don't like guys in band but they love the lead guitar player of their favorite band so wouldn't that be about the same since he plays a music instrument he probally did when he was in school...lol...well when I was in school most folks in band I liked them and all just didn't like hanging with them to much because it seemed like all they wanted to talk about was star wars, startrac, or lets play battleship or something of that sort. They were just kindof nerdy. Well, I never looked down on anyone ever! But, thats just life it will always be that way that people who are in band will always be known for bandnerds because they are not wasting thier life like the rest of us...lol

well, i don't think that they do. a lot of people look down on the pop artists in bands today because they are not very good. many of them don't play instruments either though. i'm not in a band but i play instruments and i don't feel that people look down on me at all.

you mean like Marching Band? when I was in school it wasn't cool to be in the band... now I'm in college and all the people I've met who are cool are in the band... it made me want to pick my clarinet back up and join so I can spend more time with my friends!
