how do i get rid of racoons living in my attic without paying a pro?

They hate the smell of ammonia. I had the same problem and called everywhere until someone gave me this advice. Buy some liquid ammonia (grocery stores carry it for stripping floorwax). If you can locate where they entered, brush ammonia across that entrance threshold

Then put more ammonia in something like a magarine dish, and put it with the racoons. As long as they have a way to 'exit stage left' they will go... mine did.

Animal shelter, Or shoot them, They are very smart animals, I live in the country and they can just about pick a lock, they are always coming up with a way to get into our horse feed. What you should do is catch them , train them and then they could make a movie like they did with the dogs that robbed a bank! ha-ha, Animal Shelter is best, I was just having fun!

Buy a fire extinguisher and some M-80's and see if they are adverse to loud explosions- hehe. I'm serious make sure you're working with a phone speeddial set for 911.

Call your animal shelter or humane society. That is your best bet. Do not try to handle them by yourself. If you wish to lure them out, try cat food. Then make it impossible for them to return to your attic. Best of luck on that. Raccoons are incredibly smart.

I hate raccoons the lil barst**eds besides i recomend a capture. Theres traps the position it locks them up. purely lock it up and then dont feed em for 2-3 weeks it may die then chuck the body contained in the bin. i'm australian and that i went to usa of america to vist my auntys who stay wakeful there and those raccoons!

Don't handle them by yourself. They carry diseases, especially rabies. Call an exterminator or animal control to do it for you.
