i am faced with a problem of finding a good job. I have college credits, and i am still enrolled. I have not been able to find a decent job at all. i am good looking, clean, veyr hard working. I have numerous awards too many to list,i have achieved the rank of SGT in the military, and have been praised for excellence in leadership values, but for the life of me i just can't seem to get a decent job, yet i find people all the time who have good jobs and they have no experience or nearly as much leadership skills that i have. What is wrong with me, i think i am going to have to start collecting unemployment!

Not sure of your location but the nuclear power industry hires security officers with military background. It may not be what you want but it is a start.

I am in California but there are power plants in many different areas. If you are interested, contact me and I will see what I can find around for you. Let me know what area of the country you are in.

By all means if you got out of the service recently, apply for Unemployment. I went through a very difficult period when I got out of the Navy and then found that I could have got Unemployment and at a higher payment rate than you would think because of the benefits you used to have like Free Housing.

Most major Military installations have a program called TAP (Transition Assistance Program) which should be able to help you with your job search.

You are correct that your military experience should be considered more of a help in finding a good job. It is too bad that the same people who voted our President into office, don't encourage their children to enlist for their ideals, and then don't hire Vets who fought in the war.

Another good page I found was military.com as a starting point for your job search.

Corrections, man.

I recently retired as a Deputy Warden from on of Va.'s largest Jails (not prison, jail). We always gave considereable credit to US veterans, not to mention, most of our supervisiors are promoted within and were former military.

It is an honarable career, unlike what you probably heard, there isn't much fighting, and when there are fights it's usually inmates beating other inmates-so you only repond when you have appropiate backup.

In my 20 years, we racked up 4 officer assualts by inmates, 1 was touching, one was spitting, one was kicked while on the ground undernneath about 10 officers.

It's a safe and reputable career and you know, it's one profession that aint going away.

There's nothing wrong with you. Sometimes it just takes time to find the right fit, especially for someone who has been "out of the market" for a while. Don't get discouraged. Thank you for your service to our country and I hope that you find something you love doing. Hang in there!

You did not mention what your MOS in the army was. What jobs are most similar to what you did for the Army? I know there are some.
