This is a dresser type thing that is maybe a little over 4 feet high.. It has two small drawers on top.. Then 2 cabinet like doors behind which are 4 somewhat deep.. Tray like drawers..
On the bottom is one very large drawer..
The cabinet doors have a very detailed boud wheat design.. I would love to know what this is and how old it is..

sounds almost like my dresser, except there is no bound-wheat design, and the (only 3) drawers behind the cabinet-doors are nearly as deep as the one on bottom.
An armoire is going to have a large-enough cabinet-space where you can hang something like a coat, but behind your cabinet doors are drawers, not a hanging-space, so that rules out "armoire."
On the back of mine it says "FRENCH WAL," which I've always taken to mean "French Walnut." I've always called it my "dresser." I searched to find a different answer, but came up blank. Sorry.

It sounds like a shaker dresser or chifferobe. An armoire usually does not have drawers inside.

You didn't say how tall this piece of furniture is or if it had a pole inside to hang clothes. It does sound like an armoire to me. Hope this helps.

You are describing what sounds like to me to be a "Buffet" Used back in the day to hold linens, tableware, etc. Possible an old "Bar" but sounds like a "Buffet" to moi.

It sounds like maybe a secretary desk or something. It might be if it's not too wide or tall.
