The element of American society of the Caucasian persuasion that is usually found residing in trailer parks. This segment of society believes that wrestling isn't fake, NASCAR is a real sport, pork rinds are real food, washing up is something one only need do on weekends or before a really hot date, and that cars look really good up on cinder blocks. This segment also believes that in the summer, it's OK to take your kids out to the store in just diapers, or that disciplining them in front of hundreds of on-lookers at fine retail establishments like Walmart is acceptable. Fine dining would be defined as White Castle.

Note that this segment of society is usually synonymous with rednecks, but not always, as rednecks are predominant in the South, whereas white trash can be found in all 50 states.

It's supposed to be White people that do things awkwardly enough to be made fun of, and can be somewhat of a racial slur. Whites as a general demographic and statistically have highly affluent numbers. So, the stereotype "White trash" is supposed to be the exception to that. Specifically, "White trash" is any Caucasian person that lives a stereotypically run-down lifestyle. Props of the image are trailer courts, dead cars in the lawn, Sudafed/meth, mullets, station wagons, babies with only a diaper on and stains all over them, cigarettes, lots of cats in and under the trailer, broken appliances outside, and kids that pull pranks, abuse animals, shoot pellet guns and break windows, and yell stuff out their car window.

to make a generalization, id say white trash is a person that lives in a trailer park or is poor with the wrong priorities (like they live in a shack and have a crap car but they spent all their money on a sound system for the car)

It a perfectly politically correct term which is used regularly to bash and stereotype groups of white people. It's well known that any means can be used to belittle a group of people-- including ways which include mentions of their skin color-- so long as they are WHITE.
