I'm trying to make my garden beautiful, however I don't know what I am doing since this is my first time living where is snows in winter and rains all year round. So, Could you please suggest some winter-hardy plants with some beautiful blooms?

I'm in Western New York:

Sun-Coneflowers, Iris, Black Eyed Susans, Daylilies (Stella D'oro (Yellow) and Purple D'Oro (Purple) are awesome!), Sedum, tall and groundcover varieties, Fairy Rose, Clematis (they like their roots shaded), Phlox, Perennial Geranium (Rozanne!!!!), Heuchera (all kinds-do best with some afternoon shade, but can stand a lot of sun), OakLeaf Hydrangea (Best with a little Protection, like near the house)

Shade-Hosta!!!, pulmonaria, hellebore, astilble, primrose (japanese variety are beautiful and stand tall and can withstand quite a bit of sun), Bergenia, lady's mantle (alchemilla).

There are literally hundreds of varieties that will do well. A few that are blooming now are Coneflower, Coriopsis and Beebalm. Most reputable local nurseries will be able to help with your selection. New York Stae has many local growers of perrenials.
