cosaxteacher... we all know "why" we do what we do... but the question is, why is it no consistent with policies toward other communist regimes that don't give a d*mn about human rights...

we trade, trade and trade with China and send all out jobs over there... yet shake our finger at Cuba? The simple answer I think is: Castro threw out the businesses that were making money, that pissed of many people with money... China welcomes money and takes the money to make it's country stronger...

so as long as we can make money... communism seems to be ok...

Simple. As to Cuba: Castro, who defeated the US in the invasion at the Bay of Pigs, is still alive. We don't forget or forgive. China, on the other hand, can make a lot of money for US corporations. And Chairman Mao died in 1976.

Who says you can't go to Cuba? You just can't go directly from the US to Cuba. Now I would never recommend doing anything illegal, but the fact is that thousands of Americans every year...go to Mexico...then they book a flight to Cuba. Cuba is becoming quite a popular destination for Americans.

Cuba's government has a price for the heads of any american stupid enough to go and get themselves captured. China does not. China is also one of our alies. Cuba is not. Cuba is actually a threat to us.

It's Capitalism. We hate Cuba because they threatened us with nuclear weapons way back in the Bay of Pigs. But China has so many people that we want to sell our stuff to, we conveniently overlook their communism and human rights violations.

Cuba's closer and therefore scarier. Also they're not a major trading partner.
Also, the U.S. is deeply bitter that all their assassination attempt failed and Fidel will probably die a natural death, outliving (as he said) multiple U.S. presidents
You CAN go to Cuba. You just need to enter from a country not the U.S. Ask the border officials not to stamp your passport. They've been doing it for years, and know the drill.

Don’t even get me started on that. It’s a hang up on Castro from back in the 60’s. What burns me is Cuba has killed a handful of US GI’s and we wont recognize them but Vietnam killed 50.000 plus and now we’re best buddies even when the are POW/MIA issues.

For some reason we're actually being buddy buddy with China instead of being tough like we were with the Russians and how we are with the Cubans, i think we needed to be tough on China before they got to where they are today and when they were working on aquiring nuclear technology.

we were never in a war against china, and besides, without china, dollar stores wouldn't have anything to sell, nothing useful comes from Cuba, except illegal cigars

You can go to Cuba, but not through the U.S. It can be done, but they don't support it. The U. S. doesn't support trade or tourism in Cuba.
