My son age (6) has been invited by the divorced parents of a friend of his age (6 will be 7). They are doing separate parties - one at the dad's house the other is a day out together with the mom going to the movies and lunch. However, what would the proper etiquette be on the gifts? Should we give 2 smaller gifts at each get together or just one larger one?

Two smaller gifts: at the movies give a couple of dollars ($2) in a card and at the dad's house give the gift. Otherwise, the gift could get lost at the movies and the card would get overlooked at the house. You're a thoughtful one!!

I would do 2 small gifts, one for each party. Or maybe you can find two gifts that go together (like a bat and balls) that you could give separately but that the child would enjoy using together? Good luck.

If you know something that he really wants, I would say get him the toy he wants. At the second party you could just give him a card because they're relatively cheap. If you don't know anything that he really wants, then get him two smaller gifts!

get a gift that has two parts and give half at one party and the other half at the other party.

I would say yes but the value of one doesn't have to be as big as the other
