I will be graduating this December with my associates in criminal justice, and I want to know what kind of jobs I can get with it. Please let me know if I can be a Probation Officer with the associates degree and tell me how much they make. I don't want to be a cop or security guard, I mainly just want to support myself while I continue with my studies to become a lawyer.

You didn't mention what state (or country) you're in, but... In Kentucky, they require a 4-year degree to work for Probation and Parole. I worked for Pretrial Services. They didn't require a 4-year degree but usually hired people with them. You might check with the state probation department in your state to see if they have co-op or intern programs. Also, check with the whatever department does administrative work for your court system. I started out as a co-op with Pretrial after I got a BA and ended up with a career with them. I would think that salaries would vary wildly from state to state.

In most cases, you must have at least a four year college degree. Criminal justice, psychology, and sociology are some common majors for probation officers. Some employers require applicants to have an advanced degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or a related field. As is true for many law enforcement officer jobs, different employers have different requirements. Previous work related experience can certainly you get hired. You could consider trying to become a correctional officer to gain some experience. Do whatever you can to make yourself the best candidate that you can. Don't do anything illegal, maintain a good reputation, keep a good driving record, don't get bad credit, improve all of your communication skills as much as possible, and become as physically fit as you can. Consider county, state, and federal jobs.
