I would say no due to the temprature changes and nature of it's use. It will be no time at all before the paint would peel. If it is possible you would want to use a product by a company called "XIM" and the product is called "Tile Doc". It is a two part epoxy that is supposed to work on showers and tubs and other surfaces that are hard to stick to as well as ones that take a pretty good scrubbing and beating. I would try to talk to someone that knows the product though cause it may not work in this case. I beleive it will however work on stainless stell just that the dishes will be banging around in there and forks and knives will be scraping so I would expect to have to recoat it from time to time at the very least.
Also, be sure to talk to the paint store clerk about preparing stainless steel for painting because it will defintely need to be "Etched" before hand. I am not sure what kind of sollution you would use although it may be a mixture of vinigere and water )about 50/50) to prepare the surface for painting. Just double check on that one.
By the way, last time I checked you can get these products from Sherwin-Williams for sure but they may have to be ordered in as there isnt much of a demand for this sort of thing. They should also know if this will work for sure and what steps to take to insure proper adhesion or can call thier hotline to find out.
Good luck!

Yes it can be painted with metal paint but first you must steel wool and seal before painting. If you go to a paint store and find appliance paint, some good paint stores will even take this paint and put it into spray bottles so you can have a smooth surface without streaking. I would also put a sealant on it afterwards. Good luck!

Save your pennies...I mean dollars for the one you really want. And no, it cannot be "painted". Anyway, you are probably talking about a Red Enamel sink, soooo not a Stainless one.

you'd have to rent an automotive painting pump, a spraygun (automotive one too, cos the type they use to paint houses and things wont work to paint a sink,)
then buy some sort of enamel paint, then spray tha whole thing in 5 seconds.

never heard of it being done but that does not mean it hasn't. problem is nothing would be durable enough to stand the punishment a sink gets. Even if you powder coated "price equal new one". it it would be like trying to wash your dishes and KNIVES on your car. The ones you see have a baked on enamel finish which can stand up to the punishment it will receive.

Most every one are right, it's not practical. But if you get a glass sink, put a light under there and you can change the color of the bulb at any time.
