Nasty processed foods in our grocery stores; genetically engineered produce and meats that don't have even HALF the nutrients they did one hundred years ago; fast foods that have been cooked in fat and that are loaded with salt and empty carbohydrates; sedentary jobs that don't require any significant physical activity; entertainment that doesn't require any physical activity (movies, internet, gaming, role-playing...); an ignorant population that believes the government and the health care industry want us to be healthy.... they don't. If we were, then how would they make any money?... and if the big companies don't make the money, the politicians lose the backing. Yes, thank you.
Need I say more?....

Because the fast food industry has become the normal dinner for many Americans. People like what tastes good for the moment, and do not consider what the grease, fat, and carbs are adding to their body! Euwwww! And, the rise in video and computer games along with extended Internet usage causes us to lose interest in other activities, and we are sitting for longer and longer periods and then not working out to balance that out! It's getting pretty ridiculous, isn't it?

American junkfood is very cheap and people are naturally lazy so why spend an hour of your time cooking a nutrious old fashion meal when you can pop down to the local fast food restaurant and buy a tasty hamburger for very little.
The nature of our work is changing beyond recognition. We might be working longer hours, but thanks to the intervention of modern technology, most jobs generally require much less effort than before. So our recommended daily calorie intake doesn't need to be as high.

Two words: fat grams. Read the contents on most fast food and you'll be shocked at how much fat - especially as a percentage of calories - is contained in a lot of what we eat.

Due to modern technology (eg. computers, cars, escelators) people do not have to work as hard to do as much so it creates a laziness. In addition, there is rarely a lack of food so Americans have more than enough to eat and no way to work off the excess. Eventually it just builds up.

because all these fat lazy broads would rather go buy burger king because they are too tired from shotting the breeze with their friends all day, so you can't expect them to cook.
Then their kids see that and grow up fat too.
we should have used fat people to plug the broken dams in new orleans
