it isnt a rat snake is is actually called a black snake and isnt poisonous, but very visious, i sugest you just leave him alone, my dogs love them cause they put up a fight, if your dog is any smaller than a rat terrier i would worry but my little rat terrier has killed a 6 ft black snake easily, just leave him alone, if you get bothered enought waqlk behinde him and stomp he will almost always so away, is he coils up simply slowly back away and once he feels the need to let down his gaurd he will go away

I have a black ratsnake that is an absolute sweetheart, but some of them can be mean-tempered, so you definitely don't want to go out and pick up your, ah, "guest."
Are you certain it is a black rat? Depending on where you live and how big the snake is, it could also be an Indigo snake. They're quite endangered, and you have to have a permit to keep them. (They're also harmless rodent-eaters, but can get to 8ft or more)
A ratsnake can't kill or even really injure anything but the very tiniest of dogs. (Unless you count a nip on the nose and a lot of hissing "injury.") If you're worried about the snake's safety, try finding a long forked stick. If you're gentle and move slowly, you might be able to persuade/prod the snake to climb on, and then you can move him to safety. Or if you startle him a little, he might leave on his own.

the snake should be fine, just let it be. As for you dog it will be ok, if it finds the snake it may try to mess with it, but it will learn not to. If your dog does get bitten it will be ok. Rat snakes are very good and will take care of any mice problems

Black rat snakes and rattlesnakes do no longer, received't, and would no longer flow breed. except the very incontrovertible reality that both are snakes, they are not even remotely appropriate. What you heard became an previous different halves tale that's repeated by utilizing ignorant those with a want for drama. in case you insist on rejecting actuality and believing the "ranger" in any case, that's your project i wager.

if it a rat snake, they are not poisonous, they squeeze their prey, call animal control if you want him out of your yard, they will catch and release him somewhere away from the population.
