The drastic moves that racists called for have been "effectively sidelined" according to the New York Times. It is a victory for all who Marched on May 1st to protest Bush's larger and more damaging proposals and it put racists like Sensenbrenner in thier place.

Bush was behind it. He doesn't want to hurt his "image" as a humanitarian so he asked the republican'ts to kill it. His family is mixed Cuban (Jeb's wife and Kids) and he realizes the irony if he nixes the Mexicans. So he wants to leave it for the next administration. The only good thing I can think of that he's done!!!

That's nothing to cheer about. And the people for this reform are not racists, they're people who understand the security issue and damage being done to their communities along with the country as a whole.
