My 9 year old son could manage an American League team. The DH takes all the strategy out of the game. And I live in an American League town.

Lame Skater - When was the last time you saw an AL manager have to make a double switch? When was the last time an AL manager had to pull a pitcher who was still throwing well just to get a bat in the lineup in the 7th inning? That is strategy that doesn't exist in the AL thanks to the DH.

Help - I never said that AL baseball teams weren't good? Their managers just don't have to manage.

There is just as much strategy in a DH, just look at how the AL is pounding the NL.
Hey, good point. I guess since I am a Twins fan I just like the addition of a DH. I do like strategy in a ballgame however so maybe I could give a little more credit to the NL, even though the Twins are 13-2 against some good NL teams.

National League baseball is real baseball. Yes a lot of the best teams happen to be in the AL this year, but that's beside the point.
Plus, a lot of the pitchers nowadays can swing a pretty good stick. Dontrelle Willis actually hit seventh in one game last year, and eighth a few times. So the "automatic out" argument really doesn't hold true anymore.
A full-time DH is only a half-time player. That is why you will not see Edgar Martinez in the Hall of fame. Time to ditch the DH. Past time, in fact.

I say American Leauge is better. While it is nice to see the strategic plays, ie sac bunt double switch etc., every once in a while, who doesn't like a good old fashion slugfest? Remember the espn commercial with Maddux and Glavine 10 years ago, "chicks dig the longball". I haven't heard of too many players taking steroids so they can lay down more bunts, and they don't call it the hit and run derby do they?
As far as statistics go the two leauges are pretty even. Since 1903 the AL has won 58 world series' and the NL has won 47, since 1933 the AL has won 34 all star games while the NL has won 46. That's 92 wins for the AL and 93 for the NL.

I personally prefer American League baseball. The pitcher batting is, more often than not, just a wasted out. I understand your argument about strategy, but there are many calculations that get made in both Leagues. I think both have their pros and cons. But that's what makes baseball the great past-time that it is. I wouldn't want to see the DH in the NL, and wouldn't want pitchers batting in the AL. For once, let's just leave things the way they are.

For strategy purposes, the National League is better. Bunts, steals, hit and run plays, and double switches are something you won't see in an American League game on a regular basis. If you want to go watch two teams slug it out, then the American League would be up your alley. I personally prefer the NL because it makes you think which makes the game more interesting.

National League of course, it's baseball the way it's meant to be played. My grandson (who is 2) could manage in the AL. 9 players to a side, 9 innings. NINE players, not ten...

Nonsense!! The designated hitter adds excitement and offense to the game. Who cares about strategy?? To many, the game is boring enough. No need to make it worse watching a pitcher trying to hit!! I'll take excitement over strategy any day!!
Have to call them as I see them.
