I'm going out tomorrow and the theme is 1920's. I already know how I'm going to do my make up and my hair, but I don't know what dress to wear. I have a white one with flowers, two pinks ones, a black one, and a black one with polkadots. And what kind of shoes? Help?!

Hello!,

I'm 30 years old, and my mom went to FIT Fashion School in New York (the most prestigious fashion school in the world).

I asked my mom, and she said: YOU NEED a sleeve-less dress called a "shift". A "shift" is a basic dress that is "straight"--up and down. (meaning that it does not "flare out" at the bottom, and it is not tight either). The length is a little below the knee. The dress must be a little loose fitting.

In addition, its good if the dress has sequins, but its not required.

To add special 20's touches, you definitely need lots of long, fake pearl necklaces. Wear at least 2. As the women danced, their necklaces would shake and look very cute.

To win an award for the best 20' look, its all about the hairstyle. The 20's were all about short, chinese style "bobs". Meaning, the women wore bangs that covered the forehead, and the rest of the hair came straight down, stopping at the ears; and the ends of the hair were slightly bent into a curl coming towards the face. (you may want to purchase a inexpensive wig at a "beauty supply store" that normally exists is ethnic neighborhoods).

To get that special 20's "flapper" look, you MUST tie a thin, folded scarf around the head--and attach a large feather underneath the scarf, so that the feather looks like a cute "accent". (hope this makes sense).

Make sure to wear leg stockings if you have any. Women didn't wear bare legs in the 20's.

As for Shoes, they wore simple shoes called "mary janes". Umm, how do I describe? They have a short heal, and a slightly rounded toe.

You should also do an online photo search for a famous 20's singer named Bessie Smith. There's a famous black & white photo of her with a feather in her, smiling. Her looks is 20's completely.

HAVE FUN AT THE PARTY

All you have to do is go to the library and look for 1920's fashion. You could also try the internet or a fabric store they have books with all sorts of dresses/fashions. One dress of the 1920's that was really popular was the flapper.Hope i helped you bye!
