I don't mean it in a mean way, just stuff like "hey, what's up sodomite?" and so forth. I mean, we still refer to gay women as residents of the ancient island of lesbos, so why not refer to gay men as residents of the ancient city of sodom?

As a heterosexual female, I find it more offensive as Lesbian is not also a reference to a sexual act. Whereas the sodomite is much to close in reference to sodomy.

How about we just stop making a big deal of sexual preference and all start acting like regular people.

You have a good point there. I don't believe it's rude. If "gay" or "homo" is accepted in "polite society", why shouldn't "sodomite" be?

No, but what is rude is saying I'm GAY. Gay means happy does it not ? How many homosexuals are really GAY?

It's a legitimate and accurate description. Doesn't bother me.

To the ones your referring...they may not be apt to be so agreeable with that name...

agreed, yet, as with other words with ancient roots, their behavior created the very definition of sodomy, hence anyone who practices sodomy is a sodomite.
