The current quota of World Cup places is distributed mainly on football development of the region and to a lesser extent on the size of the continent. So, analyzing the situation, I think that the current situation is relatively fair enough. I say this because the development of football in Asia and Africa is not satisfactory enough to award them more places. If places are awarded under current conditions, it will result in underperforming teams being the whipping-boys of their respective groups. South America has 12 countries and I think 4.5 is fair enough. For Europe, well, 14 seems a lot but considering the great national team heritage and especially club heritage (A.C, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United...) I think it's worth it.

Europe should have 15.5, South America 4.5, Africa 4.5, Asia 3.5, North/Central America & Carribean 3.5, Australia/Oceania .5. Yes, this means that the host country WOULD have to qualify, it would not qualify automatically. 16th place in Europe would play 4th place in Asia, 5th place in South America would play 5th place in Africa, and 4th place in North/Central America & Carribean would play 1st place in Australia/Oceania.

Definitely. After Cameron went to QF in 1990 and they expanded the World Cup (I think since 1998) to 36 teams, scoring has plummeted as it's all too defensive now.
If we went back to best 16 or 24, I guarantee you the soccer would be better.
For me, Europe gets too many places as so many of their sides are boring. Sure they may deserve spots, but I'd actually like to see more Latin and African flair.
I have no idea how you do it but I actually prefer seeing a team like Australia or Cote d'Ivorie than stupid Poland or Spain choke yet again.
Also, use the FIFA rankings (as flawed as they are) to seed all teams 1 thru 32 so groups are better balanced. It looks like Land of Eg will make semis with a completely crap team thanks to a weak group and luck of the draw. But that's FIFA--clueless

It appears from your stats that some are continents are under representated. So i guess changes will be welcome but I doubt FIFA is ready for any radical changes.it must ensure that certain teams which ensure that sponsors put in their monies are always at the World Cup and that might make changes quite difficult in materialising.

It does seem kind of random, but Europe has the strongest teams. So I guess it works OK. I'm rooting for Antarctica.
