Christy,
Your question breaks my heart. I've suffered depression for years and sometimes it's worse than others. Please know you are not alone and it does get better. If the doctors said you need to be in a mental hospital and you and your husband don't feel that is necessary, by all means get a second opinion. Medications might help you. Counseling can get pricy, but sometimes it is covered under your medical insurance (I know my medical plan covers something like 5 visits per year...it's not much, but it's enough to get me better when I'm feeling lost). By all means, church can be a great source of encouragment and help. The pastor may even offer couseling. If "something" is telling you you ned to go, you probably do. God is probably trying to show you that He is where you need to find the strength to do this. If you will email me your address (sosassy70@yahoo.com), I want to send you a book. It's called Battlefield of the Mind, by Joyce Meyer. I read it and it helped me a lot through my depression. Please, if you ever need someone to talk to, contact me. I will do whatever I can to help you. God bless.

I think that if you feel the need to go to church, then go. Maybe the spiritual guidance will help you through these hard times. You might even make some new friends. The pastor in the church you decide to go to can help you with some counsiling. Most of the time they do this for a small fee and sometimes it is free. Your husband and family might enjoy going to church with you also. But don't do it for them, do it for yourself. You need something and if that is what is pulling you then there must be a higher being trying to get you some help.

DEPRESSION IS NOT ALL IN YOUR HEAD!!! I absolutely do not believe you can just make it go away. Especially since you've gotten to the point of trying to harm yourself. Depression is caused by many things one being a hormonal imbalance but there are many causes. It is also hereditary, does your family have a history of depression? It is important to figure out the cause of it, so see your old doctor maybe he has some useful insight. I would also encourage you to start attending church, talking to your family more about the situation and maybe look for support groups to find people who are going through similar issues. It is especially hard to work through this on your own and it can be very helpful to talk to someone who knows what you are going through. Best of luck to you.

If you are truly serious, then ask your doctor about medication for your depression. There are quite a number of them out there: Zoloft, Paxil, and others. Under the care of a doctor, they are the best way out of the hole you're in. I've been taking anit-depressants for 15 years and I wouldn't be here without their help. Go NOW. Ask for help. Then do what your doctor says.

I'm sorry to hear about your depression. Well no one hates you, that's just your mind telling you that, so get that out of your head. Going to church would be a good start. God has help many people in different ways. Start going to church and pray. If you pray and tell God what you want and if you believe in him he'll cure your problems. I hope you get well. Goodluck.

i was depressed a couple of times. To over come it you need to think more positively. Also going out more like for a walk or taking a shower at night can reduce depression. i learned this in my psychology class.
Also depressed people ( who are depressed for similar reasons to yours actually give themselves reasons to be depressed that are not true like "my family hates me".
Using drugs to cure it is not the best thing.
There are many other reasons and cures for depression that i can give you. Just e-mail me at foxy89class07@yahoo.com and I'll be honored. to help you out

Church might help. A lot of ministers have counselling training. Your husband and the rest of your family need counselling, also.
