The greatest mystery is the very nature of Existence. Forget about even the start of this universe - think about the various theories that talk about the Big Bang or about the potential that we're in an endless and beginningless cycle of the creation of universes (where time and space come into being) and destruction of the universes. That there may have been billions of universes that have started and ended, lasting for trillions of years each (if we can even talk about time in a universe that 'occurred' 'before' ours), and that we're in just another cycle. So the mystery is -- and something that will blow your mind if you really think about it: something always had to exist (something that has no cause). Forget about god and theologies and all preconceived notions -- if we adhere to the theory that universe creation and destruction is a beginningless/endless cycle, then try to get your mind around the fact that this process just always existed! If you really appreciate what this is saying, it boggles the mind. Something that just always existed?

Combine this with the various theories that say all the material and energy of this current universe all fit into the space the size of a pinhead and that just adds to the mind-blowing experience. Bringing God into this leaves us at the exact same place: the existence of something that just always existed. I used to get into almost a panic when I REALLY thought about this when I was a kid.

Apparently there is a way to solve this: have an enlightenment experience. Read '3 Pillars of Zen' if you think that the practices of Buddhism are comfortable for ya (all major religions have some form of practice that cultivates this experience -- a practice that is not the one used by the literalists/fundamentalists of any religion).

It depends on the person. To some the ultimate question may be "why did my father abuse me?" To others it could be "is there an end to the universe, or does it continue on forever?" It's just like asking "what is the meaning of life" Everybody will have their own meaning, and their own questions.

Why is it that if all the things that lived in the ocean were to die, the planet would die too, If all the things that are green would die that the planet would die also, if all the insects were to die the planet would die, If all the creatures that walked on four legs would die , the planet would die....... But if all the creatures that walked on 2 legs died, the planet would flourish and survive.... To me that is a great mystery, Indian( Native American) legend speaks of this.

Has nothing ever existed? What I mean by that is how can we determine the begining of time or creation? Unless nothing existed before that. If nothing existed, how could something be created.
