Admittedly we still have 95% of the 21st century left to go, but the first five years have been really discouraging.

freebird: It sounds to me as if you have delusions of grandeur. If the future is what you make it, does that make you responsible for the "Axis of Evil"?

Sadly I have to agree with you, the last five years haven't been mankind's shining moment - "when will they ever learn?"

Surely irrespective of '95% to go' we look to understand 'what, if anything, has changed' between the centuries and also compare the philosophy, history and societies patterns through one to the other ?
Personally, I dont believe it is a case of 'which one do I like better', but rather can I discern patterns which the theorised extrapolation of such would lead to social entropy.
For example, ask a child in 1950 what they would want to be when they grew up and you may receive answers such as 'builder', 'baker', 'candlestick maker'. In the 70's; 'musician', 'scientist', 80's 'rich', 90s; 'gap year then Ill think;, the naughties.....'famous' ?!
Im being faceious......but im trying to suggest an underlying move of society to anything of substance to superficiality....

So far, I'm really enjoying the 21st century more. I am in my 40's now, and I seem to be "coming into my own" finally! Not that there weren't great things in the 20th century (both my sons were born then, so that's gotta be great), but I feel more secure and confident now...jmho!

good question! i guess if you found good things in 20th and bad things in 21st, for sure youd say 20th is better. i would say that if this is what happened, its for a reason, like to learn a lesson from all bad things that happened so far. personally, i enjoyed both as much as i could but most of all im full of hope for the rest of this centurys and for all those to come!

I don't know what bannanas is talking about , but I thought we are talking about 1900's + 2000's. I liked the 20th century because I was young and life for me was more care-free.

21st - The future is what you make it. I choose to make it better.

You're standing on the shoulders of giants, and have advantages that no humans have had in the history of mankind, and you complain because someone else hasn't made your future better for you?

Quit whining. and quit thinking that you're somehow entitled to something "better" without earning it. You'll get the future YOU deserve.
