Closed them and your curtains too. Open the windows at night after the sun goes down to get a breeze going. A lot depends on your house. Some times the attic can store up heat during the day and radiate it back into the house at night. Sort of like the principle of adobe homes where the desert nights can get quite cool. If this is the case you may want to install some venting in the attic such as ridge vents or thermostatic controlled fans. If you have a good amount of insulation above the ceiling it will still keep the house warm in the winter. Experiment

okay I am going to elaborate for you on this a bit
In a car - crack the windows on a hot day to keep it from getting so hot inside the windows crack or bust completely -
the house - I keep all my blinds closed so it is dark in the house but I do turn off my A/C when I leave in the morning and open the windows I have bars on so that the air can circulate and I dont have to run my A/C when I am not home....
I hope this help - and just so you know - where I live the summer temp is in the 100-115 degrees - sometimes hotter -

I would think that would depend on where you live, wht time of day it is: and if the wind is blowing!
If you live where it is humid and hot,,then close the windows, and blinds,,,to keep the sun from heating the room.
If it is a cloudy windy day,,then open the windows and let your house air out..
If it is early,,and it is still cool,, and the ac isn't on..then open the windows.
We don't get that choice,,,, our ac runs allll day long, and everybody energy bill went up about 60.00 this month due to gas hikes.

Depends if you have air-conditioning. If no air conditioning, opening the top of the window to allow hot air at the ceiling to escape is a good idea. Having a low opening in the house to open will provide a draft to allow natural convection to cool the house as well. Just remember that hot air rises and if it has a way to leave, it will.

If the air is cooler inside than outside you want to close the windows to keep the cool air in. Close the blinds to keep the sun from warming up the inside of your house.

I'm going to agree with evryone else, close it up during the day and opened at night time. Unless you have no air conditioning than you might want to leave them opened on the shady side.

Closed along with your curtains or blinds too. Open them up late at night when the sun goes down to get a nice breeze.
PS: Your avatar is sweating, you might need AC.

i say open if you can create a draft ie by opening on in the bedroom and on in the kitchen. closed if you can also block out the sunlight with a really dark shade.
