either pay it off or ignore them. they''ll eventually stop and sell your account to another collection agent and then they'll sue you again. it does go against your credit report, looks bad, and you'll be penalized that way. most collection agencies sue you to scare you into paying them. bcuz they don't get paid until you pay. if they do tke you to court, it'll just drag everything out and be more cost to them in the end. if the do tke you to court then it will also be burdensome on you as well. legal fees, additional penalties and fines maybe. your call. I've had them as well and I just paid them to go away.

The worst penalty is, when they send hired goons around to your place to break both your legs with a baseball bat.
