Have a heat pump unit... the outside unit will run but the inside fan doesn't on auto... the fan will run on manual and will stay on.. is it the thermostat that needs replaced or the fan unit...any guesses.

T-stat not making R to G to initiate blower during normal call for cool. Can be proven in that you can manually initiate blower, proving no burnt wires. If not that, then new t-stat not properly wired (if new one recently installed). I suggest you replace t-stat, or properly wire new one recently installed.

problem is most probably NOT the thermostat. I work for heating co. and thermostat always gets blamed because it's in the living room. prob is probably with the outdoor unit, and the reason the indoor fan doesn't come on is that it is not yet providing cooling because of the problem in the outside unit. best to call a reputable service company.

it may just be wired wrong. if the thormostat is old it probably needs to be replaced. dust or anything could mess it up. if the fan runs on manual, there is nothing wrong with it. i'd leave it on manual until you get it fixed.

Check the switch for the fan. It may be faulty on that particular setting.
