I hope I don't need a new iPod - it's only a little over a year old...

Install the latest verion of iPod Updater... http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

Either Update the software that runs your iPod (on your iPod), or Restore the iPod back to factory settings and upload all your music again...

Have you updated to the latest firmware? Mine had the same problem but with the firmware update everything was fixed.

Mine does that sometimes. Try resetting it.

call apple, they're awesome! if you have a warranty, i don't think they charge........might want to ask before hand........
