You win the first few times, but you keep going and lose. Soon you lose the grocery money, the mortgage money, the car money, so you wind up at social services asking for food, clothing, bus fare and a place to stay. At that point you are in poverty.
Sometimes it happens slow, sometimes it happens fast, but it does happen, because some people don't know when to stop. They become addicts. Gambling also drains money out of communities, and people stop buying furniture and clothes because they spent it all on gambling. Crime and prostitution usually come to areas that introduce gambling, making it unfit for families, which move away and turn the area near the casino into a ghetto or high crime area.

Gambling does not lead to poverty. Gambling Addiction like all addictions will destroy your life and have severe consequences on your financial status. But if you gamble within reason, like the vast majority of people do, it can be exciting and entertaining.

Because most people who gamble often cannot stop. Thats the whole idea for casino owners. Get the majority of suckers to lose while a small number actually win.

Gambling can become an obsession. Just like a drug addict giving up everything he/she has for that high, a gambler will do the same thing. Many times in doing so they put their homes, their families and even their own lives in jeopardy.

Easy. You gamble away all your cash, money, assets & properties. When you don't win any money back, you continue to play more by borrowing and using your credit cards cash advancement. At the end, you simply lose more than you win. By then, your family might leave you and if you still have your job, consider that lucky.
