Many tennis clubs in the UK are too bound up the Country Club ethos whereby who you are and what gear you've got and what you wear is more important that how well you can actually play.
All that ambition and winning is frighteningly infra-dig, old chap! Best left to Johhny Foreigner. They don't even drink Pimms, you know!

You know that Andy Murray is Scottish, not Spanish. But, it is true that he developed his game in Spain.
Spain has a very strong development tennis program. Spain invests far more resources (private and public capital) than the U.K. does. That's why Spain has been so prolific in producing so many World class pros vs virtually none for the Great Britain expect for Tim Henman. (Greg Rusedski is really Canadian, so I don't count him).
Right now, on the ATP Entry Ranking Spain has 12 players while Great Britain has only 3; and one is really Canadian (Rusedski), and another trains in Spain (Murray).
Great Britain has just given up on tennis.

Spain really produce great players?? For me, just Nadal can classfied a great Spain player.
If Spain is great, I think Belgium and Russia is much more better.
Belgium got K. Clijsters, J. Henin
Russia got Sarapova, Kuznetsofa, Dementieva
US got Sampras, Agassi (Roddick not a great player)
