Hey Dale Jr lovers, don't get me wrong by this question, please!! I absolutely 100 percent like Dale Jr., and I am not trying to be insulting by asking the question...in fact, he is one of my favorite drivers! So NO rude remarks! My question is...is Dale Jr. possibly overrated? I mean, I don't think he has ever won a championship. I like Dale because he does have skill, and right when you think he won't do well, he does!! But he has not won too many races...and not a championship...so, how good is he really? Thoughts on this?

He is overrated by the media and his own fans. He has not proven that he runs at championship level, but time and time again the media acts like he does. Dale Jr is a good driver, just not a great driver YET. Actually, I like Dale Jr himself because he takes all of this in stride. The media, however, needs to figure out that until he wins a championship or maybe more races in a seaon that he will only be a 'good' driver.

Dale Jr is my favorite driver. Sometimes I wish he was not so popular so that he might have time to do more appearances (like for his fan club, other drivers do it but he does not).
I think he is a really good guy who has his heart in the right place but gets pulled in too many different directions so it makes him overrated and media saturated. But isn't Dale Jr what everyone wants to see? I know I do.
In his case, I guess overrated is not a bad thing. A lot of people have high expectations for him as he does drive the "company car".

Here's where the problem comes in with Dale Jr. He came into this sport as an Earnhardt. Everyone expected him to just come in and dominate, b/c his Dad was considered one of the best. Noone gave him a chance to go be himself and be his own driver. He inheritied a lot of fans.. We all know that fans of a driver think that driver is the greatest no matter what. SO since they became JR fans they are going to fight till the end about his holyness. Is JR a bad driver, no. Is the greatest, uhm far from it. I think he's finally stepping out from that big black shadown and trying to be him for him, and trying to see what he can really do with that car instead of figuring he's an Earnhardt and will win.

I think Dale Jr is as guilty as overrating himself as the media is about overrating him. Yes dale is a good driver but he gets way more attention and there are many other drivers who are just as good if not better than him on the track

jr definately has potential. he won consecutive busch titles and he really has proved himself as a solid contender for the cup. Just look @ this year along with 2004. After last season's poor performance, people began to question his ability, but as soon as he was reunited w/ Tony Eury Jr, what a difference! u see alot of the drivers who had to make their own names have more aggression and skill cause they really had to work hard to get a ride. Jr on the other hand has his name and skill. He took the busch series by storm.

Dale Jr. has won championships just not in Nextell he has won Busch championships. Hopefully he will win a championship soon for Nextell.

No, not overrated at all, first thing is NOBODY in the history of sports has ever taken on the pressures that he took on in February of '01. After his father passed away, he had the weight of the sport on his shoulders, how would you handle that, or I for that matter, that's one of the things I respect most about him, he really hung in there and is getting back to where he left off, give him time and he will shine. Also don't forget he is a 2 time Busch champ.

I think that he has found himself under too much pressure - he has stake in DEI, plus Chance 2 motorsports, trying to get Truax going...that is allot, plus trying to have a life, too. And, everytime he does something, he gits compared to dad. They were 2 completly different drivers.

he is a good racer.he does get alot of attention for being the son of a nascar legend but i think that alot of people like him for how he races. he does show some of his fathers traits but he will never be as good as he was. so to answer your question i don't think that he is overated.

he has 17 wins. he will win championships. not 7 of them though his farther will always be the best. #3 forever...
