Answer questions to get 2 points. If you put a lot of thought into your answer and get voted as best answer, then thats 10 more points.
When you have maxed out your answers for the day, vote for best answers. This is only 1 point, but hey...1 point is better than none!
I also go through my list of answers every day and rate any that have been resolved where my answer wasn't the best one. This also gives you another point each time, plus it helps other people know if they gave good answers or not (yes, there are some pretty bad "best answers" out there, as well as some GREAT answers).
Finally, unless you really have a question that needs answered, don't ask. Like you pointed out, it takes 5 points away. (Although, if you do pick a best answer, you get 3 of the points back).

One way is to answer the really hard or rare or somehow avoided questions (so that there are not many answers to compete against), and you have the BEST answer (you get 10 points).
That's happened to me a lot, even on some where I joked.

I gave the same answer as a man and got nothing then changed my ID to a girls and got 10 points for it.

yes you did lose five ya dork! answer more questions n have really good answers so that people will pick you for the best answer but NEVER ask for the 10 points thats not wat you do...
