then why are lesbians not considered gay?
only the male is considered gay
and the female is not considered gay but only lesbian?

Ok, so way-back-when, "gay" used to just mean anyone who liked other people of their same gender (romantically; don't go all semantics on me). Because we live in a patriarchical society, and everything starts to be assumed male anyway, but especially because people are happier to ignore / excuse lesbianism (cause it's "hot") whereas anti-gay people are for some reason FASCINATED with what men do in the bedroom, the word took on a distinctly male slant. So, the already ignored lesbians now face invisibility because even when people are talking about "gay people", they're usually really only talking about gay men. So, people made a distinct effort to be specific: "Gay men and lesbians". I know some females who do still identify as "gay"; it still holds the generic meaning, but they kind of throw lesbian in there more often to kind of "remind" people that...yep. There's gay women too.

I think lesbians are considered gay. It's just that the additional term lesbian applies to them also, so they get two labels. I have always thought that the term gay applied to any person who is attracted exlusively to the same sex. I have heard many gay women call themselves gays instead of lesbians, just out of preference.

Gay has three meanings:
1) Happy
2) Guys who like guys
3) The umbrella word for GLBT's (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgenderd)

Not sure what the question is. Gay is a catch all slang for homosexual so lesbians are also gay.

Did it ever arise to you that homosexual guys are extra relaxed popping out considering that homosexuality is extra permitted than it used to be 50 years in the past, no longer that there is always extra homosexual guys? That turns out like a extra fair rationalization than the truth that ladies are using instantly guys homosexual. LOL.
