There are originally 5 members of the band. Dave Matthews on lead vocals and guitar, Boyd Tinsley on backup vocals and electric violin, Stefan Lessard on bass, Carter Beauford on drums and percussion and backup vocals, and Leroi Moore on saxophone and some backup vocals. Stefan is the youngest member of the band, Carter the oldest. They have had a piano player, Butch Taylor along with them for many years now, although he is not a part of the band they formed in 1991.
