I'm 4 and a half months pregnant and the job i work sometimes requires me to lift heavy objects, mainly for the elderly. (i work in a grocery store so i lift things such as cat and dog food bags, big things of cat litter and multi-packs of water). i can usually lift them without a problem, but now that I'm pregnant it sometimes hurts my back to lift them. can u please help me and give me some advice as to what to do?

Consult your doctor because since everyone is different your lifting limit is also different. The girl I work with when she was pregnant she wasn't allowed to lift any more than five pounds and another girl I know worked in physical therapy and she lifts people all day long. The doctor told her to do as she normally would after all you can't stop working just because your pregnant. So you never know I guess it depends on what your body is used to. When you do talk to your doctor let him know that its starting to bother your back and if there is anything else you can do about it. He/She will give you the right suggestions.

Check with your doctor, but I would say that if it hurts to lift heavy things, I wouldn't lift them anymore.

I don't lift anything over 10-15 lbs just as a precautionary measure.

When you lift rather you are pregnant or not use your legs and arms, never use your back. If you continue to pull ,pick up and lift heavy objects while you are pregnant you can wrap the umbilical cord around the babies neck.

It probably will not hurt the baby, but your ligaments loosen up when pregnant and it could hurt you. You will need to be careful for at least 4 months afterwards also.

They usually say no more than 15 to 20 lbs, but I say no more than you can comfortably do. If its hurting your back then stop. You're pregnant. This is probably the few times you can get away with it. :-)

Ask your doctor. But If it hurts, don't lift it. You don't want to jeopardize your child. Your managers will understand.
