I remember having this same dilemma when my son outgrew his infant seat but wasn't quite strong enough to sit in the shopping cart without flopping over.
During that time I kept the infant seat in the trunk and when I got to the store I just moved him from the carseat into the infant seat and shopped as usual. He still fit in the seat well enough even though his feet hung off the end. Sometimes I preferred to just put him in the baby bjorn but it's hard to bend and stoop for things on low shelves with that on.
You could also try bringing some towels and stuffing them around her in the shopping cart seat. Those seat covers alone aren't substantial enough to hold up a baby but you could use one along with some stuffing. You can also stuff your purse on one side of your daughter and a soft bag full of toys on the other side of her.
It's kinda of a weird transitional time but in another month or so she'll probably be much better and sitting up so you won't have to do this for very long. I didn't find out until later that they make infant car seats that go up to a higher weight so you can use them longer (until 7 or 8 months old) and I think I'm going to get one for my next baby for this very reason.
Anyway, happy shopping!!

She can probably use the convertable seat for a little bit longer. She should be sitting up very soon then she will be okay for the shopping cart. Just buckle her in real tight. I know they also make something that goes over a cart a big blanket type looking thing that you could put in the cart. That might be better incase her back is not so sturdy she will bump her head on the fabric.

I think, by the time your daughter is old/big/strong enough for the next car seat, she will be ready to sit in the cart by herself. If not, go to Plumgood.com or PeaPod.com and look into grocery delivery services. The product prices aren't any higher and the delivery fee is minimal (between $5 and $10).

By the time she moves out of her infant seat she should be strong enough to hold herself up, if not most stores have carts with seats built in.

Most stores have a few seats with baby seats built in, they look like a carrier seat, so that the baby can recline. If not, take along your stroller, and push that. Otherwise, keep on using the car seat.

If you use the cart with the babyseat. Please Please wipe it down first.
They have a soft seat for babies that goes into the shopping cart to hold them. You can find this at any baby store.
Or get a front baby carrier. I so wish I would have gotten one when my son was that old. He was sitting up on his own by 5 months but would fall asleep at the store and I ended up carrying him

Usually at some stores they have a car seat built on the cart....you could check it out...if not you might just have to get one of those carriers where you carry her on your chest

Check out Babies R' Us. They make little padded things for babies that you put in the shopping cart seat (to protect your baby from touching it and getting God knows what germs on her), and then you just use the buckle on the shopping card to fasten your baby in.

Well if she is only six months i would think she can still sit in her protable car seat??? if not they have this carriage cover (so they don't put there mouth on the handle or put they're hands all over the nasty carriage, some come with a pillow attached to the back of it so it keeps them upright....good to buybuybaby.com or even babiesrus
