It's not really that unsafe. The only problem with cartilage piercings aside from others is that they are more difficult to clean out. Since your ear is all ridgy and stuff, it's really easy for junk to build up in it, which can lead to infection. Though that's pretty easy to take care of, just take a Q-tip with a little bit of soap or rubbing alcahol and just go around that area of the piercing with it twice a day.
As for the pain, cartilage is one of the more painful piercings you can get. It's not that terrible, but it will hurt kinda like you have a bruise in your ear for 2-3 weeks.
The best place to go is usually to a professional piercer in a tattoo shop or something. They are usually pretty clean and you don't have to worry about them using dirty instruments or anything.

I used to work part time in a tattoo shop as a receptionist. The tattoo artist and I were really good friends. He did piercings as well. As far as the pain goes, I couldn't tell you. Different people registar pain in different ways. As for being unsafe, it's not as long as you get it done by a professional. Your best bet is to ask the person piercing you if they use one-use, sterilyzed needles and ask about others who have gotten a similar piercing. Ask the person piercing you how long they've been doing it and what type of experience they have. The more experienced, the better your experience.

I have my left cartilage pierced twice. The first time I had it done in a professional shop, and though it didn't hurt when I had it done, it did hurt for two or three weeks afterwards (it wasn't infected, but it was painful to lay on or to touch with too much pressure). The second one I did myself (don't do it; it's dangerous and could result in a lot of damage), and it didn't hurt at all at any point. I think that's probably because I made sure to take better care of it.
As of now, both piercings are completely healthy and healed, and I never feel pain from either of them.
Basically, as long as you keep the piercing clean, you should be okay.

First of all, piercings of any kind, and tattoos for that matter, "hurt" depending on the person and said persons pain tolerance...
With that said...I have my ear done, and it hurt, but it was liveable; and it is only unsafe if someone is doing the piercing wrong, you need to get it done by a professional.
But it healed well enough, and it was not extremely painful...it actually hurt more the next day more than when I got it done...same way with my tongue.

It is just a piercing, are not able to you wait till your sixteen? You might harm you mum and dad emotions in case you cross at the back of their backs. No i does not harm. There's extra of a danger of your ears getting inflamed in case you get it pierced with a gun, it is excellent to get it performed with a needle (horrifying i do know) however it quite does not harm, for a cut up moment it hurts a tiny bit however then the ear is going numb. Gok Wan has stretched ear lobes, so except your making plans to stretch your ears, i might opt for the stud. Good success on some thing you make a decision.

Mine only took two weeks to heal. The pain wasn't terrible. I just couldn't sleep on that side for a while and had to careful when getting dressed and pulling my hair back.
My friend - who got hers done at the same place and at the same time - took a little longer to heal but was still fine.
I play with mine all the time moving it around and such
We went to a Karma. Just make sure the piecer knows what they're doimg.

I have the top of my ear pierced. It hurts worse than ge your ears pierced normally, and it's really loud. My ears are sensitive so it got infected 3 or 4 times. You can get it done wherever you get your ears pierced normally. If your were going to get your nose pierced, you would have to go to a body piercing place, and I hear that is hurts when you have a cold.

It does not hurt if its done correctly (meaning by a professional, not a good friend). The pain starts afterward. It takes forever to heal. I removed mine, since it woke me a few times while I was sleeping.
Hint: if you favor one ear more then the other while sleeping, get the opposite ear done.

My experience was that it hurt for a full year before I finally took it out. It just wasn't worth it... I couldn't even sleep on that side of my head. I got my nose pierced later and it was actually alot better the the cartilage!
