I own a condo, and i totally wish i had bought a house now!

Condo fees, condo association complaints, ASKING FOR PERMISSION to do things in your OWN house, Dealing with jerks on the board, and feeling like you don't have a say. SO NOT WORTH IT!

Buying a house is great, its yours and you basically only have 2 more bills than with the condo ~~ Water and trash removal.

Most condo fees range from great (250 a month) to scary (500+ a month) we pay the mid range 350 and for what we get i'd much rather be paying for a house.

Only my opinion :-)

The real answer to your question lies on what you want do do.

Homes, you carry all the cost for repairs and maintenance inside and out. There is a lot of work on the upkeep of the home (yard, roof, etc, etc) BUT you will love to enjoy the peace of your own home (unless you have a noisy neighbor).

Condos you dont have to worry about the repairs and upkeep of the outside of the condo because the association takes care of all that (yard, roof, etc) If you are lazy and dont want to do much work to keep you place looking nice from the outside a condo is the way to go BUT you might not like having to live with noise on the sides on top of you and below you from noisy neighbors (if that is the case).

A solution in the middle could be a Town home. You have small up-keep on the patio and you only have close neighbors condo like to you right an to the left.

The disadvantage I see with condo & Town homes is the HOA fees their regulations and restrictions. The HOA fees are basically money down the drain because it does not benefit your mortgage payments BUT it does help you if you HOA is good in using all that money to the up keep of the units. If the HOA is good, the value of your property will be safe.

I guess you could keep going back and forth so it really depends on your lifestyle.

HOUSE is the best.
living in a condo is like living in appartment. You live in a house like you want. I mean you cannot do anything outside in a condo. Always remember in a condo you should be lucky if you like all the neighbour's. often not everyone is as good as you are.

It depends what you want! If you are the kind of person that likes to do the work yourself and dont mind handling the responsiblity that comes w/a home then obviously the house is for you. But if you want someone to mow your lawn and fix your pipes and don't mind paying for it then a condo is the way to go.

that depends on what you want from home ownership. if you want a space to call your own and no yard work than go with the condo, but beware of the annual dues that most of those places charge they can really eat into your budget. if you are looking for the yard and kids atmosphere and a bit more responsibility than the house is the way to go. it is impossible to say which one is better because they both are great, just not for everyone.

No to the condo. I have one now. noise, water always being turned off, etc. the biggest problem is the renters they don't care. I owned a double wide Mobil home (trailer) and lived in a trailer park and it was much better than living in this condo.

If you love noise all the time and people yelling @ each other and
their kids. People taking your parking place all the time.
I hated living in a condo. I guess it depends on where it's located,
but it is not like living in a house.
