Yes, I think some places make you work through lunch because that's when they need you most. It's not fun to work at such a job, but you can probably sneak in a snack if your boss is not over your shoulder all the time.

Not really, because it is a federal law (its only good in the US )- but throughout the US its the same 30 minutes for lunch in an 8 hour day and two 15 minute breaks

Yes. But in the United States, you are allowed one 1/2-hour lunch and two fifteen minute breaks if you work 8 hours. Add the lunch on so it actually equals 8 1/2 hours.

if you work an 8 hour day you are by law entitled to a 1 hour lunch or 1/2 an hour lunch and 2 15 minute breaks.....
