I like the fact that the media has incorporated it into its story lines. I like the gay pride parade. I think that religion is the biggest negative influence regarding homosexuality. What else needs to be done to get rid of homophobia?

Help to stop homophobia through leading by example.Show that there are not just gay and lesbian stereotypes but are in fact many different kinds of GLBT people living in the world who do things and behave all sorts of ways. There are GLB members of the Armed Forces (more often closeted because of laws and homophobia), there are GLBT attorneys and there are GLB and even transgendered athletes.

We need to show people that being gay isn't about just sex.It is about love and who we love.It is about family-our families. It is about being human. It is about being normal-normal for us.

We need to encourage people to take the time to know us.

We need to show people that AIDS effects everyone-not just gays.

We need to show people that gays pay taxes and thus deserve the right to share their life as legally recognized partners with the ones they love.

We need to show that our community is diverse and diversity is a wondrous thing.

We need to teach people the narrowness of certain fundamentalists and question that narrowness.

We have come some way, but I wouldn't say a lot. Movies and gay pride have helped. I think our government plays a big part, they need to be more accepting and stop using gay marriage bans as distraction plots. Religous groups need to be more accepting. Many churches recognize gay rights, but not all. The main thing is for straight Americans to have interaction with gay Americans so that they can see everyone is essentially that same, but I don't know how to accomplish that since we are pretty segragated in this country.

I think we have come a long way combating homophobia, but we still have a long while to go. Even within the gay/lesbian circle my friend has been hurt cause she is bi and the myths that go along with that. I do think good GLBTQ story lines in movies and TV help. And young people think about it more and use the goldren rule more often. (Goldren Rule- treat others the way you want to be treated.) But then some jock calls me a dyke because I have short hair and it seems like one step forward two steps back.

Perhaps the best way to stop homophobia is for Gays to treat Homophobes the same way that homophobes would LIKE to treat Gays...only I fully believe it should be pre-emptlive! Do before being done to. When I see a Gay man tied up to a fence in Texas, tortured to death, and left for vulture fodder, I get riled. When I See Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell preach out and out death to Gays, I get riled. I am wondering when Gays will have had enough...remember the 60's and "Burn, Baby, Burn...Riots and burning worked wonders for the Blacks. Whites came to fear them and gave at least some equality. Well, perhaps it is time to consider that ANY true progress for minorities as come at the edge of a sword. Fear is the only method of true change, sad to say.

Unfortunately those gay pride parades are usually in bigger cities right? I'm bi and live in a VERY small town in upset NY - you can't tell anyone around here if you are bi, lesbian or gay. People are still very closed minded - but I think as our generation gets older (since most people ages 40 and under) accept it and are OK -- as we get older and the older people who still have problems with is die out -- eventually it will be accepted.

Sadly there is so much ignorance around homosexuality. Many religions seem to want to spread love and peace yet the basic teaching "love one another" is lost in the struggle for who has the better religion! Making homosexuality more visible since it has been around for decades is a lovely start!

finally, convinced. Proximately, no. In different phrases, the origins are diverse on the exterior yet probably very a lot an same deep down. faith and different ideological platforms help to institutionalize and naturalize kinds of discrimination that upward push up in society. In so doing, faith, media discrimination, or maybe tutorial platforms do not only make stronger the kinds, yet also furnish a hegemonic myriad of factors for his or her existence - giving the introduction of many motives. All of those alleged factors are easily accessible fictions that were made as a lot as conceal the muse of the priority - concern of what one does no longer understand, or extra only, concern of the different.

I'm 58, so have seen incredible positive changes for lgbt's. I think the biggest improvement in history has been from 1990 to the present. More and more people "coming out" promote positive environment for lgbt's ... as straight people realize they DO know gay people and, hey, they're really nice and they're actually quite normal, attitudes will change.

Uninformation. People need to know about these things. And yes, religion is the biggest negative influence regarding homosexuality. We need to inform people. People are afraid of what they don't know.

I don't think so. I mean at least the message is being heard that we are people just like you. But it just seems to make the religous nuts more nuttier. And please understand I don't have anything against Christians because I am one. I just dont think God cares about religion that much.
