Americans are a mixture of most of the people of the world. We don't think of ourselves as a member of a small group, In Iraq the people don't think of themselves as simply Iraqis. They're all members of a tribe. The tribe comes first. Then they're divided by religion.
There in America some people are friends for years without knowing or careing which church the other goes to. In Iraq everyone knows who the Sunnis are, and everyone knows who the Shiites are.
Imagine what it was like in early America before the Europeans came. There were over three hundred different Indian tribes. Hatred and wars went on between tribes for lifetimes. If the natives of America were one tribe, all working and fighting as a unit, they would have been so powerful that all of Europe together couldn't have conquered them.
Unity means strength. Division means weakness.

It's called being "uneducated" on different cultures. It happens all over the world, not only in Iraq, but in the middle east moreso. They probably view the U.S. and Brittain as a cruel, rude race. That is how I view them anyway...and I'm one of them.
Imagine a people so removed from the world, all they may catch a glimpse of, is something from an american music video. That's the impression of us they have burned into their minds. Now, take the invasion. The image of a soldier that is disrespectful to the woman and ignorant and arrogant toward the race and that is the next impression they have of us. They don't have tv's in every home, heck, before the invasion most didn't even have electricity.
I served out there for over a year and I saw things that still make me cringe at the thought of sharing a country with some of the slime the military sent over there!

They have three main cultures in Iraq. The Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites (if I spelled those last two wrong I'm sorry). They don't get a long well. They have been clashing for hundreds if not thousands of years and its probably one of the biggest obsticals our government has had in trying to formulate a country in Iraq (and government). The Turkish goverment asked us not to divide Iraq and give the Kurds their own country because they are at odds with the Kurds over territory (and other things). Still I think that would have been a good answer.

Americans are the ones who invaded Iraq. I guess Iraqi's aren't brainwashed to believe that their government and way of life is perfect like the Americans are.

The answer is religious intolerance...Similar to the only good Indian is a dead Indian philosiphy that pervaded America in the 1700-1800's. In other words if you believe in anything other than Islam they tolerate you...Mind you I said tolerate not accept. Acceptance is what we have in the USA despite some lingering predjuices. THEY NEED TO LEARN THE IDEA THAT DIFFERENT RELIGIONS ALL ULTIMATELY ANSWER TO THE SAME GOD (if there is one).
